I am mad about and maybe because of cats. I adore all animals really, but a few years ago I began to foster cats for the SPCA, and before I knew it, we had gone from a family of two adults and two Siamese cats, to a family of two slightly mad adults and a group of seven quite diverse, fat and happy cats. I don't get to travel as much as I'd like with this menagerie, but we're never at a loss for entertainment, that's for sure. For their fun and enjoyment we created our Bird Cafe' on the main deck adjoining their screened porch, and over time, have become as fascinated with these amazing creatures as are the cats. In the past year or so I have begun to paint a bird every now and then...they are aMuses for the entire family.
After a lot of years in the world of advertising, I had the opportunity of time to pursue my dream of becoming a full-time artist. For about 20 years I was a painter, and enjoyed a reasonable amount of success. I still love it dearly.
A few years ago, I began seeking a way to combine various loves: Textiles, mosaics, mixed media and, of course, paint, into something new--something more tactile--with more dimension than a canvas.
I had used polymer clay a few times but only in the most basic, uninspired way.
I don't recall exactly how or when I came across the book or website that opened my eyes to what could be done with this medium, but I was astounded. I haven't looked back yet.
I've learned enough now to know I will never learn enough. That, in and of itself, is enough to keep me gong for a very, very long time.
